Ahh yes! This post is a complete dedication to Kilpisjärvi. If you know, ya know… If you’ve never been, definitely jot this destination down as a go-to in the future. But please, do plan ahead. I have now been to Kilpisjärvi twice. The first time I drove my car there and the second time around I took a train from Helsinki to Kolari. From Kolari I took a charter bus to Muonio and from Muonio I took another charter bus that would finally take me to the savagely beautiful landscape of Kilpisjärvi.
However you get to Kilpisjärvi, prepare yourself for some epic hiking and if you fish… THERE’S FISH! Lot’s of them and many different species too. Read on if you have been thinking about making the epic journey to Enontekiö and its wonderful Kilpisjärvi!
Be prepared with all of your camping necessities
Caution! Pack light, but not light enough! Don’t make the mistake of overpacking as I did! My second time around to Kilpisjärvi I found myself with an overwhelming rucksack that weighed me down 13 beers, a loaf of bread, 10 MRE’s, two fishing poles, an abundance of fishing suplpies, a chair, a hammock, a tent, the list does go on! You get my point though. You don’t want to do a long hike with Kardashian accessories. Do pack enough food and goodies though! That should be obvious, you need food to survive and you don’t want to fall short of it.
It’s also a good idea to include emergency contact information into your travel kit
